    How to Design Assessment of Speaking

    Hello Genz Literasi! In this time, I want to share a paper about the design assessment of speaking. Actually, this is my task when I am taking the Assessment II course in the fifth grade. Hopefully this will be a useful as reference for you.

    ASSESSING SPEAKING


    A. IMITATIVE SPEAKING (ASSESSMENT TASKS DESIGN)

    1. Word Repetition Task
    Task: Repeat these words and sentences  below after your teacher!
    Bad [pause] bed [pause]
    Live [pause] leave [pause]
    I am studying in the classroom
    My mother goes to the market
    Are you happy?
    What time do you go to school?
    Test takes repeat of the stimulus.

    2. PHONEPASS* TEST

    Phonepass* test specifications
    Part A:
    Read aloud from the selected sentences below!
    1. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very easy
    2. They get frustrated of being criticized
    3. She is sticking a stamp on the envelope
    4. They went to the holiday last month
    Part B:
    Test takes repeat sentence dictated over the phone. Example: ‘can you accompany me to surfing the internet?
    Part C:
    Answer the question with short answer:
    Task taker hear: Would you like coffee or tea?
    Task taker answer: Tea
    Part D:
    Task: you must link word groups below into correctly ordered sentence.
    Task taker hear: is / a hard / my father / worker.
    Task taker asnwer: My father is a hard worker
    Part E:
    Task: Tell your short opinion to your group discussion about the topic from the speaker phone.

    B. INTENSIVE SPEAKING (ASSESSMENT TASKS DESIGN)

    1. Directed Response Tasks
    a. Directed response
    Test takes hear: Tell me that you like read a book
    Answer: I like read a book.
    Test takes hear: Tell her that you are sick
    Answer: I am sick.
    Test takes hear: Tell him that you are not interested in badminton
    Answer: I am not interested in badminton
    Test takes hear: Remind him that you want to go home
    Answer: I want to go home

    2. Read @loud Task
    Please read aloud the text below.
    SAVING MONEY IN A BANK
    A bank is a building for saving or borrowing money. People go to the bank to deposit their money or save it for same interest. The bank also gives to the people. If we borrow money from a bank, we should pay interest. Today there are more commercial banks than there were in the past. They often their service to private citizens, to bussinessman and to the government though the bank we can pay the telephone and also electricity bills. We can send or transfer our money quickly to others too. The bank also gives many prizes for the costumers. The bank tellers help us to save or withdraw our money. They serve us quickly and precisely. However, if want to do the transaction more quickly we can do it through the ATM machine.
    3.  Sentence or Dialogue -->Completion Tasks and Oral Questionnaires.
    1). Dialogue completion tasks
    Task: Reand and then Complete the dialogue below with the apropriate expressions.
    In a department store
    Shopkeeper: Good afternoon. Is there anything I can help you?
    Customer: _______________________________________________
    Shopkeeper: Why? What’s with it?
    Customer: _______________________________________________
    Shopkeeper: O, I’m so sorry, you can’t exchange the shirt you bought. Why don’t you give it to your brother? I’m sure he would be happy with it.
    Customer: _______________________________________________
    Shopkeeper: Oh, I am so sorry, the receipt says once a product has been purchased, it can’t be returned.
    Test takes respond with appropriate lines.

    2). Directed respond tasks

    Task taker hear: What is this? Make description base on the picture A and Picture B below!.

    3. {point to the cannon) What’s this?
    4. {point to the ships) What are these on the water?
    5. {point to the whole picture} How many cannons do you see base on the picture?
    6. {point to the whole picture} Where is the man that holding the flag?
    7. {point to the whole picture} What do you think is going on in this picture?
    8. {point to the boats} Where are the boats?
    9. {point the man sitting on the rock in the very far bottom left of the picture} Describe this person.

    e). Picture-cued elicitation of responses and description.

    2.(Point the both) Which painting is older?
    3. (Point to the pointing on the left) How much does this cost? Which painting is more expensive?
    4. Which painting would you buy? Why?
    5. Persuade me buy it.
    6. Describe the kinds of paintings you like {in general}.

    f). Map-cued elicitation of giving direction
